Part I – Knead All The Ingredients

Add 2 cups of whole wheat flour, 2 cups of all purpose flour, 1 cup of sunflower seeds, 1 ½ tbsp. of yeast and 1 tbsp. of salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients together so that they mix well with the flour. Make sure to keep some sunflower seeds to decorate the top. 2-3 tbsps. will suffice.

Add in 2 cups of warm water and 1 tbsp. of honey to the mixture. Knead the dough. You can do this using your hand or with a food processor. 

Note that the resultant dough will be sticky. Don’t worry. This is how it is supposed to be.

Part II – Cover The Bowl With A Clean Kitchen Cloth

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen cloth. This will keep the dough from drying. Leave the dough to rise for 40 minutes or till it has doubled in size. Make sure that the place that you keep the dough is draft free.

Part III – Line A 12” Bread Pan With Parchment Paper

Part IV – Pour The Dough Into The Pan

Stir the dough before you pour. Do this using a spoon. Then gently pour the dough into a 12” bread pan. Use the spoon to smoothen the top.

Part VI – Preheat the oven to 428°F (220°C).

Cover the baking pan with a clean kitchen cloth and let the dough rise once more. This time it should be for only 15 minutes which is about the same time required for the oven to heat up.

Baking the Polish sunflower seed bread is a little different from other bread. Bake it at 428°F (220°C) for 10 minutes before reducing the heat to 392°F (200°C) and baking for another 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (240g) of whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups (240g) of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of warm water
  • 1 ½ tbsp of instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • 1 cup of sunflower seeds

Instructions

  1. Knead all the ingredients using your hand (in a bowl) or food processor. Leave 2-3 tbsps of sunflower seeds to decorate the bread. The dough should be sticky.
  2. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen cloth and wait for about 40 minutes until it doubles its size.
  3. Line 12'' bread pan with parchment paper.
  4. Stir the dough using a spoon then pour it into the pan. Smooth it out with a spoon.
  5. Sprinkle with the remaining sunflower seeds.
  6. Preheat the oven to 428°F (220°C).
  7. Cover the pan with a clean kitchen cloth for 15 minutes (the time when the oven is heating up).
  8. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 392°F (200°C).
  9. Bake for another 30 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool before slicing.
