I love summer in Poland! It’s the absolute best time of the year! Everything is so green, the flowers and the trees smell so good. The temperature is high enough to swim in the lakes and in the Baltic sea.
In this post, I want to share with you everything you need to know about summer in Poland, especially what you can expect and how to make the most of your trip.
The Weather During Summer In Poland
Polish summer is VERY HOT! If you think Poland is a cold country, you may be surprised.
The hot days usually start at the beginning of June, however, the official beginning of the summer is June, 21st. This day is widely celebrated in Poland but I will write more about it later on.
The summer ends on September, 23rd, however, most Poles consider August as the last month of the summer. Why? Because the school starts on September, 1st.
The Weather in June
The temperature during the day may vary from 15°C (59°F) to even 38°C (100.4°F)!
The nights are colder with the temperature between 5°C (41°F) to 20°C (68°F).
June is a strawberry season in Poland, so you will find juicy and mouthwatering strawberries all around Poland! Make sure to eat as much as you can because Polish strawberries are SO DELICIOUS!
The Weather in July
July is even warmer than June. The temperature during the day varies from 18°C (64.4°F) to 40°C (104°F).
The temperature during the night is between 5°C (41°F) to 25°C (77°F).
July is one of the best months to visit Poland, as the weather will probably be perfect to get the most out of your trip!
The Weather in August
What’s the difference between the weather in July and August? You can’t see it during the day but you will definitely notice it at night.
August’s nights are colder. The temperature during the night is between 5°C (41°F) to 20°C (68°F). When you stay outside late at night, you may sometimes notice steam from your mouth because it will be that cold. It’s unlikely but it may happen!
The temperature during the day is still high, between 18°C (64.4°F) to 39°C (102.2°F).

Polish Summer Festivals & Celebrations
Kupala Night (June, 21/22)
It’s an old Slavic holiday that takes place on the first night of the summer. In Polish it’s called Noc Świętojańska or Noc Kupały. It’s the shortest night in the entire year, that’s why it was (and still is!) celebrated.
We may call it Polish Valentine’s Day as it is when the couples were matching. The girls were throwing their wreaths into the river. Then, the boys were catching these wreaths.
If the girl’s wreath has been caught, that means she will get married soon.
The tradition of throwing wreaths is still popular in Poland! The most important celebration called Wianki takes place in Kraków.
Some people are visiting the forest during Kupala Night. It’s believed that it’s the only time you can find the mythical fern flower. If you find it, you will forever be rich and happy.
Open’er Festival
This music festival takes place in Gdynia, on the Baltic Sea coast, usually at the beginning of July.
There are more than 100,000 people on the Opener, so the festival is really huge! It hosts starts from Poland and from around the world. Some of the celebrities that performed on the Open’er are Pink, Snoop Dog, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Bruno Mars, and many more.

Jarocin Festival
It was one of the most important rock music festivals in Europe in the late communist times (the 80s’).
Nowadays, mainly Polish bands and singers are performing in Jarocin. The festival takes place in July or August.
Pol’and’Rock Festival (formerly Polish Woodstock)
It’s the biggest Polish FREE music festival.
I’ve been to Polish Woodstock once and it was amazing! You can basically go there with your own tent and spend as much time as you want. Pol’and’Rock Festival takes place at the end of July or the beginning of August.
One of the festival’s traditions is a mud bath! Be sure to try it out.
OFF Festival
Last but not least- OFF. It’s an alternative music festival that takes place in Katowice in August.

Best Places To Visit During The Summer In Poland
Baltic Sea Coast
There are many beautiful cities, towns, and villages to stay in. The most popular are Gdańsk and the Tricity, Leba, Kołobrzeg, Międzyzdroje, Świnoujście, Mielno, Darłowo, and Władysławowo.
If you are looking for a place to party during summer in Poland, Mielno is probably the best destination. There are some unique places on the Baltic Sea coast as well! One of them is Krynica Morska with wild pigs’ beach.
Tatra Mountains
Tatry with the capital city called Zakopane is a great destination for active holidays in Poland. There are many amazing hiking trails both for beginners and advanced hikers.
If you want to relax, you may visit one of Tatra Mountain’s thermal baths.

It’s a lake region of Poland! Famous for the beautiful and unspoiled nature, and friendly people.

Bieszczady Mountains
We have this saying in Polish: rzuć wszystko i jedź w Bieszczady.
That literally means: Quitting everything and travel to Bieszczady.
Bieszczady Mountains are considered a paradise for free souls, people who feel uncomfortable living 9-5 lives.
Nature in Bieszczady is completely different from the famous Tatra Mountains. It’s unspoiled, wild, and still undiscovered.

Kraków and other big cities
The list of the best summer destinations in Poland won’t be complete without mentioning Kraków!
It’s the most frequently visited place in the country. Kraków has it all: beautiful Old Town, historical Jewish District, great restaurants, friendly people, and a unique vibe.
It’s close to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp and Salt Mines in Wielczka and Bochnia which makes it a place you cannot miss.

Tips For Summer Trip To Poland
- Choose a hotel or apartment with air-conditioning. It may get really hot during the summer in Poland!
- Get ready for the crowds because summer is when the Poles are traveling as well.
- Keep in mind that the weather may change rapidly. One day may be hot and sunny and the next cold and rainy.
- Eat as many fresh fruits and veggies as you want! Most of them will probably be fresh and organic.
