All About The Polish Sweet Bread With Raisins Or Bułka Z Rodzynkami

My auntie makes a delicious raisin bread that’s as delicious as the raisin babka. This traditional yeast-based Polish bread is not as rich as the babka, but is just as irresistible, especially as a breakfast bread! Slather some soft butter, jam, or honey on it and you’re in heaven!

Did you know that this bread is also popular in the Netherlands where it’s called krentenbollen and served with butter or cheese! There’s also a famous Danish saying ‘Het Leven Is Geen Krentenbol’ which means ‘Życie to nie jest bułeczka z rodzynkami’ or ‘Life is not a raisin bun’. True, isn’t it?

  1. Mom and Grandma always made with golden raisins as do I. This is a must at Easter!
A tip for raisins: soak in very warm water (not boiling) for about 20 minutes while kneading. Drain well and pat dry in a clean dish towel. Your raisins will stay plump and moist during baking. Helps bread to be more moist as well.
