Polish Shashlik Recipe – Szaszłyki

Szaszłyki (say “shash-liki”) are Polish kebabs that are super easy and yummy! They are a staple at any summer gathering, and for good reason. They’re easy to make, endlessly customizable, and absolutely delicious.

While traditionally made with meat, we’re giving this classic a modern makeover with two options: juicy marinated chicken or flavorful halloumi cheese. Whether you’re a meat-lover or vegetarian, there’s a szaszłyk for you!

Why You’ll Love This Szaszłyki Recipe?

One of the best things about szaszłyki is how easy they are to make! You don’t have to be a chef to put together these tasty Polish kebabs. And they’re perfect for any time of year.

In the summer, throw them on the grill for a smoky flavor. When it gets cold outside, just pop them in the oven and bake them until they’re cooked through. No matter how you cook them, szaszłyki are a delicious and simple meal that everyone will enjoy.

How To Make Szaszłyki?

Step 1 – Marinate Meat Or Halloumi Cheese

Mix all the ingredients for the marinade.

Cut meat or halloumi cheese into 2” cubes. Using a spoon or your hands, mix meat/cheese with marinade.

Refrigerate overnight (or for a minimum of 2 hours).

Step 2 – Prepare The Veggies

Peel the onions and cut them into half-moons.

Wash the squash, mushrooms, and bell peppers. Cut them into smaller (2”) chunks.

Tips For Making Szaszłyki

Make them colorful!

Use yellow and red bell peppers to make your szaszłyki more colorful. You can also add more veggies, for example, an eggplant or corn.

Use other meat.

Szaszłyki will taste great with pork or beef as well. You will probably need to bake them for a little bit longer.

You can also add slices of kiełbasa to your szaszłyki or wrap the slices of bacon around the chicken cubes. The possibilities are endless!
