Polish ham soup is a sipper of a soup that can easily feed a crowd. This can be served as a main meal easily and paired with Polish Rye Bread With Yeast Recipe [Chleb Å»ytni Na Drożdżach] to dip into the liquid of the soup.

Leftover Ham?

Having the option to add any type of ham is what makes this soup even better. You can add sliced ham, cubed ham, or chunks of smoked ham for an extra added flavor.

This comes in handy if you have ham leftovers because they’re already prepped, cooked, and ready to be used another way. Just remember that the texture of the ham needs to pair with the other added ingredients, so cubing or added shredded ham tends to work best.

Part I – Prep the veggies

Clean, chop and dice the veggies so that they’re bite-sized and ready to add to the soup.

Part II – Add the pork

Once you have the water in the pot, add the raw pork. You need to be sure that the water is fully covered the raw pork so that it cooks it all the way through.

The hot water boiling in the pot is what will help to cook the added pork meat evenly.

Part III – Cook

After the pork has been added, add the prepped vegetables and all the spices into the pot. Let the mixture cook until the veggies are soft, which would take up to 1 hour of time.

Part IV – Brown the ham

While the mixture is cooking in the pot, grab your smoked ham and dice it up. Add the ham pieces to a skillet with some butter and cook until the ham is browned.

Once an hour of cooking time has passed, take the vegetables and the other pork out of the liquid and dice them up as well. Combine the browned ham with all the other ingredients and add it back to the liquid.

FAQs about making Polish Ham Soup Recipe – Zupa Z SzynkÄ…

Do I have to brown the ham?

Technically, no. You don’t have to brown the ham as long as it’s already fully cooked. The extra step does add a good amount of flavor to the soup, but it’s a requirement.

Can other veggies be added?

Absolutely. You can add beans, various types of potatoes, or anything else that you want to add. Just be sure to prep the vegetables as you have the other ones prior to adding.

What are good soup toppings?

Various soup toppings will vary depending on the person. Some people like to add crushed-up crackers, while others may like to add cornbread crumbles on top.

You don’t even have to add toppings to your soup if you don’t want to. Having soup toppings is a great way to make each bowl of soup taste differently every time you enjoy it.

How do you store leftover soup?

Soup leftovers are great because that’s one less meal that you’ll need to prepare later. The best way to store leftover soup is to let the soup mixture cool down all the way, and then store it in an airtight container in the fridge.

You can also freeze this ham soup, as long as you add it to an airtight container. If you do freeze the soup, just reheat it on the stove again when you’re ready to enjoy it.

Can I use broth in place of water?

Yes, if you want to add extra protein or health benefits to this soup, you can add bone broth. You can also use any type of stock as well and even half it with the added water.

Just pay attention to the sodium levels on the broth as it will kick up the salty flavor.
