A traditional Polish recipe of mashed potatoes topped with a sprig of dill and a hint of chrzan horseradish.

Chrzan is an important part of Polish cuisine. It can be eaten solo, with bread, or meat. It’s also a perfect base for Polish horseradish soup or a horseradish sauce. Chrzan is healthy, spicy, and has an intense taste that can only be compared to the famous wasabi. In this post, I am giving you the traditional Polish horseradish recipe that will only take 10 minutes of your time.

It’s super easy to make- all you need to have is horseradish root, lemon, water, salt, and pepper!

Tips For Making Polish Horseradish

You Can Keep Polish Horseradish In The Fridge For Up To 4 Weeks

After the horseradish paste is ready, simply put in in the sterilized jar and use anytime you want.

Run The Horseradish Over Boiling Hot Water For Milder Taste

Scalding the horseradish is the easiest way to make it milder. If you don’t like spicy food, simply put the grated horseradish root on the strainer and pour over the boiling hot water.

Do it before serving. If you want to keep your Polish horseradish in the jar, keep it raw.

Buy Jarred Horseradish If You Can

If you don’t feel like making your homemade horseradish, you can always buy the jarred ones.

I’ve been searching for some brands to link to on Amazon, however, I couldn’t find anything worth recommending. If you have access to the Polish grocery store, always choose the Polonaise Chrzan brand. It’s absolutely the best!
