Sweet Homemade Polish Pudding - Budyń Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups of milk
- 2-3 tbsp of sugar/ xylitol/ any other sweetener
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon of flour
- 3 teaspoons of potato starch
- 3 tbsp of cocoa or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Pour one cup of milk to the pot.
- Add egg yolks, sweetener, and whip it together until you will get a smooth, yellow color.
- Pour half cup of milk to the small bowl.
- Add flour, potato flour, cocoa or vanilla extract. Mix until dissolved.
- Place a pot on the stove, cook slowly, stirring all the time.
- When it nearly boils, add milk with flour and you will get the consistency of pudding.

Kisiel
It’s another 5-minute easy Polish dessert recipe that is not only delicious but also cheap.
All you need to have to make it are some fruits, water, sugar, and potato starch.

Polish Kisiel Recipe

Polish kisiel is a traditional dessert made by thickening fruit kompot with potato starch. It tastes best warm but you can have it cool too!
Ingredients
- 1 lbs of fruits (apples, plums, cherries, etc.)
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- 2 tbsp of potato starch
Instructions
- If you already have a kompot ready, skip to the step 5.
- Wash the fruits and put them into the pot. Bigger fruits such as apples or pears should be cut into smaller pieces.
- Pour the water.
- Boil on medium heat for about half an hour. Add sweetener.
- Take off the fruits or leave them inside kompot.
- Wait until kompot is cold, or cool off half a cup of it.
- Mix potato starch with COLD kompot.
- Pour the mixture into the remaining boiling hot kompot.
- Your kisiel is ready to eat!
Notes
You can use any kind of juice (even the one from the grocery store) to make this dessert, just make sure it's not too sweet.

Last but not least- the semolina porridge! The favorite dessert of all Polish kids.
You can serve it solo, with fruit mousse, fresh fruits, honey, nuts… and anything else you like.

Semolina porridge recipe is one of the easiest and quickest you can possibly have. It literally takes 5 minutes to be done. In Poland, kasza manna is usually made for kids, however, many people eat it for breakfast with different add-ons.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of milk
- 4 tbsps of semolina
- fruits/ syrup/ nuts/ jam/ chocolate
Instructions
- Pour a teaspoon of water to the pot and make sure the entire bottom is wet. Then add milk (it will prevent the milk from burning).
- Add semolina and cook slowly, stirring from time to time.
- The dish is ready to eat when you get the consistency of the pudding.
Notes
Depending on the type of semolina, the cooking time may vary. The instant one will be ready almost immediately, standard semolina may need a few more minutes to be ready.
Semolina porridge is ready to eat when it's soft and it has the consistency of the pudding.
If you want to make it more watery, add more milk.

They are delicious, super fast, and easy to make. All you need is some milk, flour, eggs, and oil.
Naleśniki makes a great dessert when served with fruits, jams, or whipped cream. Plus, you can decorate the plate to make them look even more delicious!
Authentic Polish Nalesniki Recipe

The Polish pancake recipe or nalesniki recipe are thin crepes or pancakes that are light and fluffy. Easy to make, they're perfect as a sweet or savory treat!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of milk
- 3/4 cup of water (preferably sparkling)
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup of flour
- a pinch of salt and sugar
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients for the dough using mixer or whisk.
- Heat the pan with 3 drops of oil (it should be very hot, for my oven it's volume 7 with 9 being the max).
- Start frying the pancakes, make them as thin and light as possible. Smear the pan with oil every time, or simply pour 3 drops of oil and move the pan a bit.
Notes
If the dough is too watery, add more flour. If it's too thick, add some milk or water.

If you have a Polish grandma, you’ve probably heard of rice pudding with apples. It’s one of the most famous Polish food for kids (but not only!). Ryż z jabłkami is vegetarian, cheap, and VERY easy to make. Keep on reading to discover my family’s traditional Polish rice pudding recipe.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of rice
- 3 big apples
- cinammon
- sugar (optional and not recommended)
Instructions
- Pour a teaspoon of water to the pot and make sure the entire bottom is wet. Then add milk (it will prevent the milk from burning).
- Add rice and cook slowly until it's soft and there is no milk left.
- In the meantime, peel the apples, chop them into smaller pieces and cook with a bit of water.
- When the apples are soft, mash or blend them. Add sugar if you want to make the dish sweeter.
- Place boiled rice on the plate, add apples and sprinkle with cinnamon.
- The rice pudding is ready to eat! You can have it either warm or cold.

Fresh Apricot Muffins Recipe

This fresh apricot muffins recipe is VERY easy. You will need about half an hour to have your dessert ready, so use it even if you are in a hurry.
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cup of flour
- 2⁄3 cup of butter
- ¾ cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of the baking powder
- 3 eggs
- 8-10 fresh apricots
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 338°F (170°C).
- Mix butter and sugar.
- Add eggs, then flour, and the baking powder.
- Wash the apricots, remove the seeds, and dice them. Each part should be about ½'' wide and ½'' long.
- Mix the dough with diced apricots.
- Line 2 muffin trays with paper muffin cases.
- Fill the muffin cases two-thirds full and bake for about 25 minutes.
Notes
You can replace apricots with any other fruits including blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples, pears, and more.

Andrut Wafers
This dessert is super easy and fast to make. Everybody likes it, kids and adults and you can literally have it in 10 minutes. All it takes is to spread on each wafer sheet jam, Nutella, peanut butter, caramel sauce, or any other sweet spread, and then stock the sheets one on top of another. Sweet layers of kajmat sandwiched between light and crisp wafers make the perfect dessert or snack. The Polish andruty wafers are easy to make at home too!
Ingredients
- 1 package of wafers
- 1 jar of plum jam (powidło)
- 1 can of kajmak OR condensed milk
Instructions
- If you have kajmak, go to step 3. You are using condensed milk, go to step 2.
- In a pot, cover a closed can of condensed milk with cold water. Bring to boil, then reduce the heat. Cook slowly for 3-4 hours. When the can is cold, you can open it up.
- Spread the first layer of the wafer with kajmak/ cooked condensed milk.
- Cover with the second layer of the wafer.
- Spread kajmak on top.
- Cover with the third layer of the wafer.
- Spread plum butter (powidło) on top.
- Cover with the fourth layer of the wafer.
- Spread kajmak on top.
- Cover with the final layer of the wafer.
- Place something heavy onto the wafer cake. It's ready to eat after a few hours.

Quick Polish Apple Dessert
Now, although this recipe is not ready to eat just after you make it, I still mention it here, because it takes only 10 minutes to make it. To make this apple dessert you need to dissolve a fruit gelly, and that is the part that takes time. So you can easily prepare it ahead of time and even do it in between other chores.
Quick Polish Apple Dessert Recipe

Perfect for summer, apple jelly is an easy-to-make Polish apple dessert. Enjoy it cold topped with whipped cream!
Ingredients
- 3 big apples
- 2 cups of water
- 3 oz (80g) of fruit jelly mix (galaretka)
- whipped cream to decorate, optional
Instructions
- Peel and core the apples.
- Blend 2 apples and divide them into 4 dessert glasses.
- Dissolve the jelly powder in 2 cups of boiling hot water. Cool down.
- When the jelly is thickening, pour it onto the blended apples.
- Place the dessert glasses in the fridge.
- Cut the remaining 1 apple into small pieces. Put them onto the thick jelly.
- Decorate with whipped cream. Serve cold.

Polish butter cookies may be the most popular during the Christmas season but they are an easy year-round snack to bake!
Ingredients
- 3 cups (360g) of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (130g) of icing sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 cup (225g) of butter
Instructions
- Knead all the ingredients using your hands or food processor.
- Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C).
- Divide the dough into 2 pieces.
- Roll out each part of the dough on a floured pastry board to the thickness of your choice. The cookies won't grow in the oven.
- Cut out the cookies using cookie cutters of your choice.
- Place the cookies on the baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes.
