What Is The Farmer Cheese Pierogi Recipe?

The pierogi ze słodkim serem or polish sweet cheese pierogi recipe is a traditional Polish pierogi made with a sweet cheese pierogi filling.

You can use homemade farmer’s cheese to make the sweet cheese pierogi filling with sugar and egg yolks. If you have leftover filling, you can use them to make some sweet cheese buns

The dough for the pierogi is made in a similar fashion as any other pierogi such as the strawberry pierogi or the sauerkraut pierogi

The pierogi are shaped by hands or by using a pierogi maker and then they’re boiled in hot water before serving!

But Where Did Pierogi Originate?

The answer depends on which European country you come from. Many Eastern European countries claim to have invented the pierogi, as do we Poles.

According to the legend, Saint Hyacinth of Poland or Saint Jacek Odrowąż as he’s known in Poland, probably brought the pierogi-making tradition to Poland from the Far East.

Saint Jacek, would feed these pierogi dumplings to the poor in the 13th century. And he was soon nicknamed ‘Saint Jacek with pierogi‘.

Once made only on special occasions, pierogi soon became popular and took on many forms, from the lazy pierogi leniwe to the meaty pierogi z miesem to the cute-looking Uszka.

Anyways, back to the luscious sweet cheese pierogi. You can serve it as it is, or you create a mix-n-match of sweet pierogi filling by adding chopped fruits or other ingredients to the sweet cottage cheese pierogi filling. Some of my favorites are:

  1. I tried this recipe at Christmas. The cheese filling was so good. But I made it too wet. Tried 3 different times. I followed the recipe first. Fail. Then I tried draining the farmers cheese. Fail. Added flour to thicken it. These were better. But it tasted different. I love making pierogi. So I am going to keep trying. Thank you.
