Łowicz
Known as the folk capital of Poland, Łowicz is one of the best places to visit near Łódź.
It’s famous for the floral patterns you can see on the traditional Polish clothes. Łowicz is also where fruit jams and other preserves are produced.
What to do in Łowicz? The best tourist attractions in the city are:
- Old Town with Town Hall
- Museum of Łowicz
- Open Air Museum in the nearby Maurzyce (more about it below)
Open Air Museum in Maurzyce
One of the most beautiful open air museums in Poland, Maurzyce Skansen is where you can see the old Polish houses.
It’s also a perfect place to discover Polish folk culture and take some Insta-worthy photos.
Uniejów Thermal Baths
The aquapark in Uniejow is arguably the most famous in Poland. Or at least the most promoted.
Don’t think they are overrated though- it’s REALLY worth to spend a day there.
Termy Uniejow are great for people of all ages- from infants and toddlers to elderlies, everyone will find something for themselves within this thermal baths complex.
There are many other tourist attractions in Uniejow, including park with the castle, The Millers’ Farm, and the playground.
Skierniewice
Located halfway between Łódź and Warsaw, Skierniewice is a town worth visiting.
It received the city rights in 14th century, that’s why the main reason to visit Skierniewice is to see its architecture.
Wander around the town to spot the railway station, the palace complex, and of course the beautiful Old Town.
Bełchatów
If you ask the random Poles about the first thing that pop into their heads when they hear the word “Bełchatów”, the answer will always be the same: the coalmine.
One of the world’s largest coal-fueled power plants (and the largest in Europe) is located in the town.
If you want to visit the coal mine, you need to schedule the tour first. Alternatively, visit Ekspozycja PGE Giganty Mocy to get to know more about this place.
What we recommend is to drive to the viewpoint (in Żłobnica, GPS coordinates 51.229083, 19.245860) to get an idea of how big the mining hole in the ground is.
Piątek
This village is one of the best places to visit near Łódź for geography lovers.
It’s where you can see (and take the photo of) the geometric center of Poland.
Sulejów
There are two reasons to visit Sulejów: to see the old Cistercian abbey and to try some watersports in the nearby lake.
You can even stay in the Cistercian abbey if you want. There is a Best Western hotel located in the old monastery.
When it comes to Sulejow lake, it’s one of the best places to visit near Łódź, for those who are looking for a truly holiday experience. The resort-like atmosphere will definitely make you feel relaxed.
Zoo Safari Borysew
If you are looking for the best places to visit near Łódź with kids, Zoo Safari Borysew is your place to go!
There are many wild animals that you can see in the zoo. Your children will also love the opportunity to take a ride around the complex on a colorful train.
Wieluń
This town is one of the most beautiful in Łódź Voivodeship.
Wieluń is very old, so it’s a perfect place to visit for history and art lovers.
The best tourist attractions in Wielun are:
- old defensive walls
- basilica
- Wielun Country Museum
Piotrków Trybunalski
The second-largest city in Łódź Voivodeship, Piotrków Trybunalski is definitely worth visiting.
Take a stroll around the beautiful and colorful Old Town, take photos of the historical buildings, and then head to Muzeum Piwowarstwa (The Brewing Museum).
It’s where you will have a chance to learn about the brewery process and try some local craft beer.
Inowłódz Castle
Built-in the 14th century, the castle in Inowłódz is beautiful enough to be a filming location for many Polish movies.
Even though all that’s left of the old castle are ruins, it’s still one of the best places to visit near Łódź.
After walking around the castle (that will take less than half an hour), drive to the nearby St. Giles church (Kościół świętego Idziego) which is one of the oldest brick churches in Poland.
Jeziorsko
This artificial lake is a great alternative to the Sulejów reservoir.
The resort-like atmosphere of Jeziorsko makes it a perfect place to relax during the summertime.
Puszcza Bolimowska
Last but not least- Puszcza Bolimowska. As I’ve mentioned at the beginning of this article, Łódź Voivodeship is the least wooded province in Poland.
That makes Puszcza Bolimowska pretty special- over 70% of this landscape park is covered with forest.
Easy to guess, the best thing to do in Puszcza Bolimowska is hiking! Go there if you are looking for a peaceful place where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of Łódź.
